Being a good critic

Whether you're reviewing a website, a computer game, a TV program, a pop concert, a play or a video:

• First think up some questions to ask yourself, for example:
  Who is it aimed at? Was it what I expected?

• Gather information: for example make sure you have the correct name of the movie and the names of its stars; find out which company makes the computer game, which platform it is available for (PC, Gameboy, Xbox?) and how much it costs.

• What did you think of it? Did you enjoy it? If yea, why? If not, why not? Would you recommend others to play this game or watch this movie? Explain your opinion.

Reporting on news and events

Write about anything that interests you: an event you went to - maybe a concert or a sports match, something in the news that, something that's happened in your street or your school or area.

It doesn't have to be long. Three paragraphs can be enough if you write it well.

What is the most important thing about the event? What is different about it? If you are enthusiastic about something, your readers will be interested.
