Witch, Witch!

By Lydia, 9, Swavesey, Cambridge, UK

Witch, Witch, where do you live?
In a dark, old, cottage near the tumbledown bridge.

Witch, Witch, what do you eat?
I like to eat soup made from black crows' feet.

Witch, Witch, where do you fly?
Under the waterfall when the moon is high.

Witch, Witch, what do you drink?
Ragwort crushed and mixed with ink.

'Now for my question.' said the witch.
'Do YOU taste nice? Come on, I'll see!!'

Lucinda

By Kirsty, 8, Stourbridge, UK

Rachel and Violet were lost.

It had been five hours since they knew they were lost. In the woods, in all directions there were trees. Trees that looked like ghosts, trees that looked like witches' hats, trees that looked like bears and trees that looked like snakes. While they were looking at the trees, they heard creaking and whispering noises. They started to go deeper and deeper into the woods. Minutes later, they saw some lights in the distance. The two girls looked at each other and Violet asked: "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"Yeah. We should get out of this place and run!" replied Rachel.
"No! We follow the lights. Come on!"

When they came to the end of the journey, they couldn't see anything except mist. They made their way to something huge, dark and dusty. The girls looked around and something caught their eyes. There in the corner was a door. Slowly, they walked towards it. The girls rubbed the dust off the door and together they turned the handle and pushed.

The door creaked open. They peered inside and saw a little lamp in the corner of the room. Slowly, they crept inside and in the chair sat an old woman who was knitting. The woman, rocking on her chair, looked up and said: "Hello girls, what are you doing here?"

"Uhh. We just followed these lights out there," replied Rachel.
"And we came to this …castle," finished Violet.
"Ahh, you've come on an adventure, have you? Well, you've come to the right place. Anyway, what lights? There are no lights outside."

The girls looked outside. The woman was right, there were no lights. Just then the woman laughed."So tell me everything that happened before you came to my castle". So the children told the woman everything. When they told her, the children said: "Anything else that you want to know about us?"
"Yes."
"What?" replied Rachel.
"Your names!" whispered the old woman.
"Our names!" Why?" said Violet
"I don't know I just want to know them"
"Okay well, I'm Violet,"
"A-and I'm Rachel," laughed the girls. "Well now you know our names what's yours?"
"Mine's Lucinda".

Lucinda cackled "Now go outside and you will see something!"
Rachel and Violet dawdled across to the door. Violet whispered "I wonder what we'll see outside!"
They opened the door, and stepped outside, the lights were on so they could see. Then Rachel asked suspiciously "What did Lucinda want us to see?"
"That!" replied Violet. Her finger pointed at a grave, they slowly walked towards the grave Violet cautiosuly wiped the dust off the headstone and read it aloud to Rachel.

Memories to Lucinda Crow
From your Husband and three children
Born 1656
Died 1729
Age 73

The girls gasped.
In the distance they could see the castle, they couldn't see the little light in the room they were just in and they couldn't see the door, but in its place was a sign that said: NO TRESPASSERS!
Violet looked at Rachel and Rachel stared back at her "What are you looking at me like that for?" Rachel asked suspiciously.
"Nothing, I was just thinking, is Lucinda a ghost?" Violet shivered.
"Yeah she is, because it says Lucinda died in 1729 and it's 2004 now!" Rachel whispered. "You're right! We were talking to a ghost!I thought she was a real person. The castle did look a bit shabby, though didn't it?" replied Violet.
"Yeah!" gasped Rachel.
They looked at each other. A cold shiver ran down their spines!

Forest Tale

By Katie, 12, Swansea, Wales

To adventure into forest black,
You may go in but won't come back.

The sprit that lives in the trees,
He punishes the sins he sees.

His soul is evil, wicked red,
He's fined for things he's done and said.

See the pond that’s clouded gray,
A child drowns there every day.

A dweller pulls from far within,
You may fight but she will win.

When skies go black the demons thrive,
You may not come out alive.

You'll be held beyond your will,
If you struggle they will kill.

To adventure into forest black,
Now you Know you won't come back

Bump in the Night

By Courtney, 11, Scotland

You roll over in your sleep.
THUD!
You wake immediately. Should you switch the light on? No, you're scared to reach from the safety of your bed.
CRACKLE!
Who's playing with the electricity? You feel cold sweat trickling softly over your brow. What should you do? You pull the covers over you and lie to one side, peering through a peephole. What if IT sneaks up on you from the other side?
BOOM!
Surely that would have woken your parents? No, you can hear them snoring in the next room. You lie flat on your back, eyes wide open.
CREAK!
Was that the door swinging on its hinges? No, your door doesn't creak. That what is it? Could it be your hamster playing on its wheel? No, you took the wheel out because it was broken.
BLEEP! BLEEP! BLEEP!
What was that? No, don't worry. It was just your alarm clock.

Scèance

By Karen, 13, New Zealand

You need to have at least 3 people for this to work. And if you believe it will work, it will.
Sit on the floor in a room and close all the windows, doors and curtains. Put off all lights OR keep a small lamp on 2 metres away from you.
Try to wear all black or dark colours and keep a happy photo of you or something that makes you feel happy next to you.
Then place 4 candles round the edge of a circular piece of carboard, all set out equally far apart from eachother.
Place one candle in the middle and have a cup of water near by.
Light the candles and make a chant something along the lines of
"spirits bad, vest your power in the ground,
spirits good, follow our chant to us,
we seek your help,
though we cannot repay"
All hold hands while saying this 3 times.
Then close your eyes and focus on the question you want answered for 10 seconds.
When you open your eyes, write YES on end of a piece of paper and NO on the other. Place the paper on the middle candle and blow out the other candles.
use the water to draw a heart on your forehead and then out out the last candle IMMEDIATELY after you have drawn the hearts.
The paper will be burned on one end and not the other.
If you can mostly see the YES that means, they are going to help you.
If you see NO then they will answer when everyone is cleansed.
To cleanse yourself, take the ashes of the paper and draw a cross on eachothers foreheads.
Now you must light the outside candles and wirte the the question on a piece of paper.
Then write four different answers to that question that could be possible and place each by a candle.
LIght the middle candle again and wait for some wet wax to form. Then drip wax on each candle and whichever one goes out first, that one has the answer next to it.
You can also write the alphabet round the edge of some paper and burn it for 30 seconds and see which letters are left.
You can find directions by watching the way the flames move and try to talk to the spirits.
If a candle falls over or something bad happens remember which candle was responsible and turn the cardboard over. the side that the bad thing happened on is the Evil side.Dont use it.
After you have finished, wrap the Evil candle up in tissue and put a locking charm on it
(haunt iu no more and go trough the door, down the path of darkness and never return)
Sprinkle water on it and bury it in the garden or hide it OUTSIDE.
Cleanse yourselfs by drinking a glass of water and a eat piece of light colourd food.
This can get dangerous and scary. Me and my friends buried 3 candles and a drop of red candle wax has sunk into the carpet. Both me and my sister have fallen over on that spot and my sister broke her arm when she fell.
ALWAYS BE CLEANSED!

The haunted mansion

By Louise, 11, Porthmadog, Gwynedd, Wales

It was then I gazed up at the crumbling wreck of a building that had once been a fine work of art, sodden, tired and weary. There was something about the building that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, not only that but my stomach felt like it had turned to ice. That was when I opened the door...
Inside it was dark, dark as the deepest depths of the sea, the torch in my sweaty palm gave light, but not much. I cast it around the room, on the ground lay a thick grey carpet of dust, it looked as though it had been undisturbed for decades. Gloomy looming cobwebs were spread out across the room like fans. Portraits of former owners of the mansion leered down at me, their eyes, glaring, seeming to be following me.
I nearly jumped out of my skin, my heart pounded for I could hear a terrible wailing, groaning sound, followed by a bloodcurdling scream. Little beads of sweat started to trickle down my forehead, it sounded as though someone, somewhere was in awful pain. The wailing started to quieten down, replaced with a strange, sad and haunting melody. It was to much, I broke into a run and thrust open a nearby door.
I was standing on a balcony, I could feel the chilling night air lashing at my face, the immense drop from the balcony made me feel giddy. Then I saw a sight that made me want to faint. On the ledge beside me was something inhuman, pearly white beings, transparent, dressed in old fashioned clothing, ghosts. I screamed and lurched forwards, then I was falling, into nothingness .......
