When writing a story, think of it as a staircase
that has to be climbed up and back down.
-
Beginning : Introduce
the setting and characters. This part can be descriptive with
lots of adjectives. The pace is quite slow and can be written
with sentences linked with connectives or conjunctions.
-
Problem : The villain
or monster is written about in detail here, and the reason
for the problem explained. The pace is quicker, although there
is still description of the problem and the effects of it.
-
Journey : In this
part of the story we introduce the hero. The story picks up
more pace as the hero heads towards the problem, adjectives
become less and the sentence length is shortened leading into
the next part.
-
Good Vs Bad : The
hero faces up to the problem. This part of the story is the
most exciting. It is fast paced and written with short sentences
to carry the reader along with the story.
-
Solution : The
hero has found a way to overcome the problem, and is able
to solve it. The story begins to
slow down again at this point.
-
Outcome : The writer
explains what happens now that the problem has been overcome.
Again, the story is slower with longer sentences, connectives
and descriptive writing.
-
Reward: The hero
returns and is given a reward for solving the problem that
had been faced.
