Trip to Venus

Ned Gram never worried
about his job. In his eyes it was the best job he could have asked for.
Every little kid including Ned at one time or another had dreamed of being
an astronaut. Well Ned’s dream came true. He had only 1 trip to space
just to orbit the earth for some test. There he faced death when the oxygen
tank fell out. Yet he was Okay. It was 5 years since that has happened.
Ned was lying in his bed watching the news and he heard of a new heat
resistant suit made by NASA, being into astronomy he got really excited.
That night he had many dreams about going into space again. Then he got
woke up by the phone ringing. He picked it up and the voice on the other
line said.
“ Hello I am from KLW would you be interested in buying a new computer
100 kilowatt hard drive.”
“No, thank you,” said guy he hung up the phone and went back to bed disappointed.
He really was hoping it was NASA calling to ask him if he wanted to go
to space.
After a couple of days Ned had lost hope. He convinced himself that maybe
it was a little too dangerous. He even knew he was lying to himself but
he refused to admit it.
The phone rang, but this time he picked it up and indeed it was NASA and
they wanted him to go to space and travel to Venus. They mentioned that
it was still to early to go to the Sun or even Mercury. He was told about
his 3 other crewmembers. Guy Coffee, Will Valentine, and Hannah Davis,
he was assigned to be there in 3 days.
He told everyone he knew the good news. He barely goy any sleep that night.
The next morning he packed his bags, put them in the trunk and headed
out.
When he got to the hotel room he heard about the mission and farther things
about the suit. In fact he actually heard his name he would go down in
history. The next day he would go for training.
Then he finally arrived there. The leader was John Mar. He said, “We will
be having 3 simulations. Two will be some you have already experienced
and one will be brand new. You will have to learn to work together. First
you will have to learn how to handle something if anything goes wrong.”
So they headed into the practice ship “The engine has failed what do you
do?” said John.
“We pull this lever, and press these buttons,” said Guy
“No we twist this knob and press these buttons,” said Ned. After a long
argument they started to push each other then it broke out into a violent
fight.” They had to come in and force the 2 away from each other.
The crewmembers ran the last two tests alone. One was to use their heat
resistant and oxygen suits. The next was one that was used to classify
items that might be found in space. After all those were done it was time
for them to launch off.
There were thousands of excited people waiting there that day to see the
rocket that was going to land on Venus. The proud crew of 4 was walking
onto the ship and awaited departure. The crowed counted down 10, 9, 8,
7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… blast off. Then the crew went into space.
Ned loved it in space it was an escape from the sounds of Earth the pollution.
To Ned all his problems on Earth meant nothing in space.
Even better Ned and Guy stopped fighting, they eventually became friends.
They spent most of their time talking about their lives and their families.
Then after about a month they landed on Venus. They had to put on their
suits and step out on Venus. Willie Valentine was going to be the first
one to step on Venus. He said these famous words. “I have seen and done
everything.”
The rest except Guy (who orbited it) steeped on. It looked as one big
open valley, compared to where he has been before. It was also a dream.
Ned always used to look up in space and saw Venus, but he never really
thought he would go up there. Then he thought to himself “Gosh what an
experience this is.”
Walking around and picking up materials from Venus he picked up something
squashy. It resembled nothing he had studied before. He was passing it
from hand to hand trying to see if it reassembles anything it didn’t.
Then he felt a huge pain in his hand he looked down and he saw nothing
but mussel his skin was eaten away. He drooped it and it ripped through
the material and ate away at the rest of his body.
The rest of the members did not want that to happen to them so they ran
to the ship and departed back to earth. It was a very remorseful ride
home.
Then they landed back on earth. They told NASA and the rest of the world
all about what happened to Ned. With the death they realized there is
life on other planets.
