75 large white turnips (or 150 smaller ones)
1 half barrel of honey
2 pecks of cinnamon
A good handful of ground mace and ground cloves
Half as much again of black pepper
50 pounds of fresh cheese
Boil the turnips until cooked through. When they're cool, peel off the
skins and slice them. Arrange some of the slices in a very large dish,
cover with a layer of cheese, some honey and then sprinkle with spices.
Repeat with further layers of turnips and cheese until there are no more
turnips. Finish with a layer of cheese. Place the dish beside a hot fire,
turning frequently until the pie is golden brown and cooked through. Serve
immediately.
