| A palfrey was a light horse used for recreational riding and trained
to give a comfortable ride. A courser was heavier, a swift hunting
horse but this name was also applied to a war-horse.The destrier
was the heavy war-horse of tournaments and battle. The name comes from
the horse being led by the squire with right hand [dexter] - a very valuable
horse it would only be ridden at the tournament and not used for travelling. | |
