  All About Me

Who Am I?

By Inayah, 12, Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK

Well, my name is Inayah, I live in England- I have lived here all my life, I am the top student in my year and class, I like Simple Plan, I am quite weird in my choice of songs- my all time favourite film is Titanic- I always end up crying- and my favourite song is 'My Heart Will Go' on, by this you can tell that I am the romantic type!

My favourite colour is baby blue and different shades of blue, my favourite animal is the dolphin. I have a younger sister and an older brother so I am the middle child!

My hobbies are filming, reading, photography, drawing (even though i would say i am not that good!)

I have loads and loads of friends- but I really want a friend somewhere else than England!

Me and the Future

By Tom, 10, Carlisle, Cumbria, UK

Dear Diary

I am 10 and have been for quite a while but I'm still really far away from being 11. Right now being 10 is great because you are 1 year away from Year Six so you do loads of new things in Science like bunsen burners and sound. The worst things are preparing for SAT's next year, it is a real pain. You get harder lessons but the teachers do help a lot. Still, it will help me for 10 years in the future won't it? If you work hard you get the job you want, which is a lawyer if you are me. The reason I want to be a lawyer is because you help people.

In 2018 I think we might have computers where when you are on the Internet you say, 'In Google type in Kids on the Net then search,' and the computer does that, then you say 'Click on the top one' and it does.

I think phones in the future will work similar like the computer. You say 'ring this number' then say the number and it rings it, plus you would have headphones that sends what they say into your brain so no one else can hear what they say. Then you think what you would say then it sends that into their brain. I wonder if that will be true? What do you think?

Braille

By Christina, 14, NY, USA

What is it? Some people ask me.

I tell them, 'It is six little dots all stuck tougher making a rectangle.'

Then people ask me, 'How do you read it?'

I answer this question by saying, 'I slide my fingers across the page of dots from left to right and I go down the page. Reading the dots.'

Some people also ask me, 'How do you remember what all those dots mean?'

I answer them by saying, 'I remember them the same way you remember your letters.'

I love Braille and think it is unique. Next time you are somewhere look for little dots on signs or maybe a classmates paper and you will know that it is Braille.

Three days in the life of a Young Writer

By Padya, 12, Dhaka, Bangladesh

January 1, Monday
I got this diary from mum as a New Year's present. She says it'll help me improve my writing. These are my resolutions:
1. I'll write more than I've ever written
2. I'll get published
3. I'll read a lot

January 2, Tuesday
School does not start till the 8th...I don't get why I have to go to school and learn so many subjects if I am only interested in writing. Mum says I have to get good grades in everything if I want to end up at a good college.
She's probably right. I've started "Born too short" by Dan Elish today. It's really good.

January 3, Wednesday
It rained all day today. The cold wind and the rain was so annoying. So I comforted myself with this poem:

"O Sky
please don't cry
Let the wind blow your tears away
Just like it blew my hat off today."

I think I'm getting good. Lucy, my best friend is quite confident that I'd be globally known one day. I hope she's right!!

My Favorite Place

By Subha, 9 years, IL, USA

On sunny days, I come back from school, do my homework as quickly as I can and rush outside to my favorite place. My favorite place is what else but my backyard. Why? It's because it's not ordinary, it's unique!

In spring, butterflies swarm around me, birds sing their beautiful song, and I feel at peace. In summer, rabbits run rapidly, squirrels run desperately, as I run up and down my backyard. In fall, leaves dance all around my backyard.

In my backyard I feel free, free to do whatever I want. In my backyard there's magic, magic only I can see. How do I know that? It's because I can feel magic in the breeze that brushes against my hair. The magic in my backyard has taught me two things, one is to see what you believe and secondly, to imagine.

I write papers about what my backyard has taught me, and this is one of them. I have relied on my backyard since I was a little girl, always ready for their surprises. This is why my backyard is my favorite place.

It's Just Me

By Bethany, 12, Somerset, UK

My name's Bethany and I'm 12. I have such a big family that you wouldn't believe it! In fact altogether there's about....20! That's my two families, my dad, step mum, mum, step dad and then all their family. Normally people have about 2 lots of grandparents but I have 5 lots! I have a dog as well and his name is Mr Chei! Weird huh? Well, Chei is Japanese for energetic so there!

I go to a secondary school and I love art, music, drama, French and English! I hate P.E...boring and maths because I'm not too confident in it. I've got a load of mates and they're really funny.

I want to tell you a bit about one set of my grandparents...P and J! I go there most days after school and as soon as I get in the door J gives me a glass of orange squash and a ginger biscuit. Then we watch Countdown and Deal Or No Deal and I normally go out the back see their goldfish, Fred! They are really kind people and it is so nice to come home to their smiling faces everyday!

I also have a little brother called H and at the moment he is just two and a half weeks old! He has honey coloured hair and surprisingly he doesn't really cry that much! I also have two sisters and they live with my mum and step dad in Wales! They have a lovely house, right in the middle of the countryside and when I go there we go on lovely walks out onto the moors. I think that's it really, I won't go into any more detail about my family because it would take forever. The last thing I want to tell you about me is I that want to be a writer so watch out for my books when you're older ok?! I'm a born trier and I hope you liked this story, all about me.

The Hammock

By Julia , 9, New York, USA

My grandmother sewed the cushion, my grandfather paid for the land, my aunt grew the tree, my uncle built the pole, my cousins picked the cotton, my mother knitted the pillowcases and my father grew the grass. Now I am here and I have to do something because they all did their part and now they are up there looking down on me to see what my choice is. And my choice is to...swing on it.

My grandfather gave me the goodness, my grandmother gave me the courage, my aunt gave me the determination, my uncle gave me the strength, my parents gave me the love, and I give them a good choice.

But there is one question I have family, who is here to push me?

Ring on my Toe

By Ammara, 9, Bradford, UK

When I was little and I didn't know,
I stuck a ring on my toe.
My mum used soap to make it slippy,
but all it did was make it drippy.
I really do hope it will come off,
because I'd feel a fool with no socks.

Perfect

By Dominique, 11, Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA

I don't know about you but I'm definitely not perfect. Some people act like they are to get friends and popularity. I just make friends by being who I am. I don't really care about popularity. So whenever you feel like like you are not special trust in yourself and be who you are.

The One and Only Me

By Natasha, 11, New South Wales, Australia

This year I am 11. I really expect a lot from my birthday like a CHOCOLATE cake, Nintendo DS games, a barbecue, etc. THIS year...I receive MORE than enough!! I received all of the above PLUS a trip to China.
At home, I have a Fighting Fish named Kroff.Unfortunately, I forgot about it when travelling to China and I am predicting that it's dying at this moment.
I have a family of four consisting of a mother, father, younger brother and me!
I have a knack of biting my nails which really get on my teachers and parents nerves!
I love hanging out with my bet friends, going on the internet, shopping, passing exams, Daniel Radcliffe and other fun things.
What I HATE is when my brother goes OVER-EXCITED around pretty girls. It drives me INSANE and he's only 5! I also FREAK OUT at spiders, bugs, cicada skins, bees, and other FRIGHTENING insects.

Strange

By Emma, 12, Gloucestershire, UK

When you're strange, nobody bothers to talk to you.
When you're strange, it's sometimes like the whole world is against you.
When you're strange, you feel isolated.

Nobody wants to be strange like you.
So you are alone.

When you're strange, you don't follow fashion. I hate fashion. I have my own style. People may laugh but I don't care. Why should I?

When you're strange, other people are a mystery. I can never understand some people. Sometimes I don't even understand myself.

When you're strange, it's never boring on your own. I have my own people to talk to. My friends are friends that no-one else can see.

When you're strange, I sympathise. Because I am strange too.
And sometimes it can hurt.

Who I am, Where I Live and What I do.

By Josiah, 7, Ashtabula, OH, USA

My name is Josiah. I live in Ashtabula, OH USA. I live so close to the beach that I can walk to it. But sometimes the water is too dirty to swim in and people don't clean up their messes. I can't drink the water. It's not salty, it's just full of bacteria that can make a person sick.

I share a room with my sometimes annoying and always messy little brother, Micah. I spend most of my time trying not to be drooled on by my other brother Zechariah and my baby sister Selah. My mom homeschools me and my brother Micah. And my dad sometimes takes me to visit the nursing home where he works.

I played soccer for three years but, decided that I want to do swimming this year instead. I like to read all kinds of books and write superhero comics. But my favorite thing to do is build things with Lego's.

I have five pets. I have a queen cat who's name is Junior. I thought she was a boy cat until I found out she was going to have a litter of kittens. I watched each of her four babies when she gave birth. It was really gross. Now they all look like little fur balls with bright blue eyes.

And that's all about me. (November 2007)

ME!!!

By Rava, 12, USA

Hello, I'm Rava. I live in the USA in Alabama. I very badly wished I live in Scotland or England. Briton in particularly. I am very much into acting and dancing and singing and I would love to go to Sylvia Young's Theatre School. Right now, I attend Academy for Academics and Arts. It's not a private school just a public school with some performing arts thrown in. No one understands my wants and needs here. And everyone is so narrow-minded. Some people refuse to befriend me because I am not christian. And when I tell others of my dreams of being on Broadway and in films they just shake their heads and say, "Not gonna happen, kid." But, I refuse to give up. I live with my mom and we aren't very wealthy. So we can't afford to do the things we both want. My father doesn't pay child support, and I don't know why as he is incredibly rich. But any hoo, I am a very kind person who loves having fun and things.

Strange

By Emma, 11, Wotton, Gloucestershire, UK

Nobody really knows me. I tell them all about me, about my family, interests, feelings, wishes. But they just don't get it. They still know nothing really about who I am.
That's why it's great to imagine.
The only friends that truly know you are the ones inside your head. They can see your thoughts and memories, and only they know you as you, rather than as some random person.
I used to think my friends understood the real me. So I told them everything. But they still have no idea. That must be why it's so difficult to make real friends - because it's only on the inside that I am beautiful, and that's the part they never seem to see. (November 2007)
